Celebrating 10 Years of Grenlec’s Customer Renewable Energy Interconnection Programme

Grenlec voluntarily started its Customer Renewable Energy Interconnection Programme to expand renewable energy generation and provide opportunities for customers who want to install renewable energy systems. Launched in 2007 and the first of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean, the Customer Renewable Energy Interconnection Programme now includes 117 customer-owned renewable energy sites with an aggregate installed capacity of 1.23 MWp.

WRB Energy’s Content Solar in Jamaica: Resiliency by Design

In 2017, catastrophic weather events, including Hurricanes Irma and Maria, devastated electric systems throughout the U.S. Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean. In Jamaica, unprecedented torrential rainfall, massive flooding, and landslides battered Jamaica’ s Montego Bay area, severely impacting 10 of the country’s 14 parishes, with Clarendon hit the worst. Clarendon is the site of Content Solar, Jamaica’s first utility-scale solar PV plant. However, the renewable energy site, developed by renewable energy veteran WRB Energy, was unaffected by the severe weather conditions that inundated the greater May Pen area with 17 feet of flood water and severely damaged bridges, roads and communities over a four-day period in May 2017.

Grenlec Awarded Best Distributed Generation Project at Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum

Grenlec was awarded the “Best Distributed Generation Project” award for its recent multi-site solar photovoltaic installations in Grenada. The award was one of seven new Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF) Project Awards that recognize excellence in project execution in the Caribbean. CREF is the premier renewable energy conference of the Caribbean marketplace. The awards were announced on October 19, 2017 at the annual CREF conference in Miami, Fla.
